~Nois is a Chicago-based saxophone quartet committed to connecting with diverse audiences through the creation of new work. The ensemble’s name, pronounced “noise,” honors Illinois and reflects the group’s mission to bring exceptional, thought-provoking new music to the Chicago.
At the heart of ~Nois’s work is a fierce dedication to commissioning living composers, particularly those who are emerging voices in contemporary music. With over 100 world premieres to date, the quartet collaborates closely with composers to develop works that reflect the core values of human connection. Through these commissions, ~Nois continues to engage with some of today’s most inspiring compositional voices.
Each year, ~Nois presents the Curiosity Series, a program that brings together Chicago residents and artists to showcase the work of composers and performers with strong ties to the city, with a focus on advocating for younger creators. Through this series and other self-presented concerts, ~Nois serves the diverse neighborhoods of Chicago, fostering collaboration and new creative opportunities.
