In addition to its productions, the company is home to one of the country’s premier acting programs and also offers unique opportunities for play development through staged readings, workshops, and productions, providing emerging playwrights with a space to refine their voices.
The Summer on the Patio series is a testament to the company’s commitment to community and inclusion. This open house event spans 12 weekends and features work on three plays that reflect the cultural and historical climate of the Avondale neighborhood. With free access for neighbors and audiences, the series fosters collaboration between local residents, BIPOC and LGBTQ+ artists, and the larger Chicago arts community.
