Asian Improv aRts Midwest (AIRMW) is dedicated to building a vital, self-empowered Asian American community through the fusion of traditional aesthetics and modern approaches. Offering training in taiko, shinobue, shamisen, and traditional Japanese dance, AIRMW also supports creative music artists while cultivating a network of artists and organizations. With the only professional Grandmasters in the Midwest, AIRMW’s programmatic incubator is opening new doors for Asian American artists, creating paid opportunities and shifting perceptions of traditional arts. As the only performing arts facility in Chicago owned and operated by Japanese and Asian Americans, AIRMW serves as a cultural hub, elevating both ethnic arts performances and modern dance collaborations.
